1. I didn’t see A Christmas Story until I was 22.
2. My favorite lunch is a chicken salad baguette with pickles and tomato from a cafe near my office. No lettuce, please.
3. I just finished what is one of the most depressing books I’ve ever read, Imagining Robert by Jay Neugeboren. Depressing, but important. It was the first time in a while that I’ve designated a special pen to take notes in the margins.
4. I think my cat is smarter than most cats.
5. As a kid, I had several different obsessions interests that generally lasted about a year each, including: astronomy, shipwrecks, kangaroos, Helen Keller, dinosaurs, whales, and Twist-a-Plot books.
6. I can’t think of anything to make for the Crockpot Challenge.

CROCKPOT CHALLENGE is kinda fun. Would love to see your recipe one day! 🙂
Chocolate Sauce and Capitalism all in a day’s work
Some of the products made at a nonprofit food development center, which provides assistance and production space for farmers and small-scale ‘food entrepreneurs.’ I’m working on a story about one of these places (there are only about 35 in the U.S.) this week.
One of the products being made the day I visited was Shootflying Hill Dessert Sauce – named after a road that’s very familiar to me, as it’s a major throughway where I grew up. Turns out the creator, Cory Clarke, went to college near my hometown and always loved the name (me too). She gave me a sample jar to bring home and man, is it delish. Yummo!
