Since it’s October, I thought it would be appropriate to do a quick blog post on how the World Series has gone so far. Unfortunately, the Red Sox are not representing this year, but thankfully neither are the Yankees, and as a Red Sox fan, a Yankees loss is the same as a Sox win.

The two teams fortunate enough to make it for this version of the Fall Classic are the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals. The series is currently 3-2 in favor of Houston as of today with the road team winning every game so far.

Now, I’m an American League guy so I’m rooting for Houston, which is where game 6 will be taking place, but Washington being in it makes the series interesting if for no other reason than how volatile the political climate is right now. Last night’s game 5 in D.C. was not the most riveting game as Houston jumped out to an early lead and held it all game, but what did make it a must-watch game was the fact that the *President and his cronies were in attendance. The asterisk used here is my silent protest as I feel like the election was rigged for him to win, but that’s a whole separate blog post that I simply don’t have the time to go into. Ok, where was I; oh yeah, the *President and his band of merry criminals were in attendance last night, and the reaction of the Nationals’ fans when he was shown on the Jumbotron was more than worth staying up for. I haven’t heard boos that loud at a baseball game since, well, I’ve never heard boos that loud at a baseball game.

Much like the separation of church and state, I also believe in the separation of politics and baseball, hell, any sport for that matter, (Talkin’ to YOU LeBron), but this was just too good. I can’t imagine what must have been running through his mind at that moment, especially on the same day that he announced the leader of ISIS was dead.

Incredibly, I think he was surprised. He doesn’t make many (ANY?) public appearances, and I truly believe he thought he would be cheered. Sorry, but this wasn’t one of your rallies. This was a stadium full of sound-minded people there to watch their team compete for baseball’s highest honor. I’m guessing that this World Series will be remembered precisely for that 20 seconds or so. Unfortunately for Nationals fans, it looks like Houston is gonna close this out in game 6, but after last night, no matter how this thing plays out, the Nationals and their fans won my respect.
