Another October, another Blogtober — the time of year when the few of us still blogging rise from the grave to offer up some fresh content.
And for me, another Blogtober brings another Blogtober playlist.
I’ve been creating these for more than a decade, and as such, the Blogtober Master List has swelled to a meaty 12 hours and 35 minutes of fall-and-fear-inspired tuneage.
It’s not a playlist full of Halloween camp and screaming sounds, but rather a mix of deathly deepcuts and tunes to see you through the season. A smattering of some more obvious entrees are in there too, a la Werewolves of London, Season of the Witch, and Sympathy for the Devil. The lens is broad, and it’s updated annually with a new, lightly themed list of songs. Other than covers of existing tracks, there are no repeats from year-to-year.
That said, not every spooktacular (sorry) discovery collected throughout the year makes the Final Cut. Slayer’s Raining Blood got the axe, for example; it just didn’t fit. Better luck in 2026, Slayer.
This year’s extension of the tradition blends pop, alternative, R&B, and hip-hop, and resulted in a surprisingly tight 50-minute set, if you will.
The decades are nicely represented, with songs from the eighties, nineties, the aughts, the tens, and today. The tempo of the songs collectively is fairly consistent, and it’s tied together with a slight lean into vampire culture with anchors like Dracula Moon, Vampire Bat, Dracula from Houston, and —arguably—Pretend We’re Dead.
