30-day Song Challenge: Day 4- Favorite Guitar Riff

I’ve been marinating on this prompt for a week now – and yes, Joe, I know I was supposed to do this exercise in 30 consecutive days, but it’s been a tough May so far. Busy at work, fighting some digestive issues, failing to say ‘no’ when people ask me to dog-sit, and this whole blog-host-going-out-of-business tomfoolery.

Anyhoo, it has been fun to test out different favorite songs and their guitar parts to see what my favorite truly is. As usual, there are many runners-up; Heart’s Crazy on You almost took top prize. Chicago’s 25 or 6 to 4 also came close. The dark-horse was Rock n’ Roll Lifestyle by Cake, and the maybe-yes-but-ultimately-no contender was Crazy Train.

In the end, the winner is the driving, intense, high-school-memory-invoking awesomeness that is Today by the Smashing Pumpkins. If you listen closely, you’ll actually hear two shredding guitar riffs laid over one another. No fail. Win.
