What I want for my birthday

No, I’m not going to post a registry link or anything, so stop rolling your eyes. It’s much more fun and interactive than that! (Ok, now you can go ahead and roll those eyes into your cerebrum.)

I’ve been asking friends and family to make me things for my birthday for decades now… as a child, sure notsomuch, but as a pseudo-adult, I love the personal touch of a photo, a drawing, or a macaroni necklace any day.

Some of my favorite homemade gifts of celebrations passed include a fill-it-yourself scrapbook by the talented and sassy Teeny, my childhood blankie encased in a little frame courtesy of JaxMum, and these kickin’ fingerless gloves by my co-worker Gigi:

Craftiness is a virtue. But we live in a technology-fueled world these days; one that is bent on the pursuit of convenience. That said, I hereby request a small offering from my friends* this year, as I turn in my proverbial Larry Bird jersey (#33) for that of one Paul Pierce. Not a bad trade.

With your laptop, smartphone, flipcam, or other trendy device as the helm, please record yourself reciting your favorite line from your favorite film of the 1980s and send it to me at

If it’s a big file, you can also use this nifty service for free: YouSendIt .

If this talk of files and recording and technology has you breaking out in hives, well, you don’t have to participate. Or, you could take this as an opportunity to learn something new. Fun! Learning! 😉 ~jax

Addendum: I failed to note that, yes, I’ll be compiling these into one video montage of awesomeness. Fer sure.

*Friends = Family, BFFs, acquaintances, coworkers, neighbors, FB fans, Tweeps, sinners, saints, and strangers.

Wow!! Looks like we raised a true “vintage”/nostalgia lover! Proud of you Jac. Does that mean we should rip up the check?? Happy Early Birthday!

I think that’s a really cool idea! I will have to consult with Kevin on this one, as he is the 80’s guru, and if I were to steal his favorite quote…*shudder*

    Responses to FAQs:
1 – Yes, you need to audio or video record yourself. It only takes a second.
2 – No, your window of opportunity has not passed. My bday isn’t until 11/12 anyway and the birthday gift thing was really just a ploy to make you play along.
3 – No, YouTube links of existing movie clips are not the droids I’m looking for.
4 – No, editing and production are not necessary in any way shape or form. If you have a smartphone, you have audio and video capabilities. If you have a laptop, you have these too. If neither, you have friends with these things.
5 – Yes, this is all I want for my birthday. So get on it, you Lazy Asses.
